Laurie Kolp’s “Artistic Illusion” after Wolf Kahn

Art of Poetry was thrilled to have visiting poet, Laurie Kolp, contribute to the September session. Kolp, who lives in Texas, was a featured poet at Poetry Hickory in July. She visited the Hickory Museum of Art before returning to the Lone Star State and created this jewel.

ARTISTIC ILLUSION
after “My Studio From Above” by Wolf Kahn

A man kneels on fields of yellow
looking down his nose, a dip to chin
as if the trees or pond might spark
a thought to draw upon. Is it he
in shirt of white, hunched on knee
to paint thy sight; or is the white
his studio, the orange profile
a patch below from somewhere
up above?
