Shaken
after “Golgotha Requiem” by Jeffrey Church

Many Marys, but this one
of long hair unbound,
sweeping over Jesus’ feet
she perfumed, then
wiped it with that hair.
Judas said it was waste.

What’s waste for a man
who brought her brother back,
Lazarus, four days tombed,
just walked out.
This night, he’s not brought
himself back.
Noon, she’d felt earth heave,
doesn’t know yet
how places at table shook.
