Bruce Niedt’s “The Yemeni Woman Votes” after Steve McCurry

Bruce Niedt Yemeni Woman Votes

Nancy Posey reads the featured poem by New Jersey poet, Bruce Niedt, at the December 2015 Art of Poetry event at Hickory Museum of Art.  Bruce attended the Fall Face to Face In The Foothills Poetry Gathering at Hickory Museum of Art in September 2015 and was inspired by the Steve McCurry photograph above.

THE YEMENI WOMAN VOTES
after “Eloquence of the Eye: Woman at a Polling Place” by Steve McCurry

All I am allowed to show in this world
are my eyes, but they see enough
to make my choice.

I move through Sana’a with other women
to the polling place, like shadows
not attached to the feet of our men.
